Books on Science
A great book, that everyone knows about, but less and less people have read it is, The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. It doesn't say that humans aren't special, or bla bla bla, that religious extremists spout. It is just a very interesting book that explains, quite elegantly, how a change can help/hinder a life form, and that the sum of these changes is what made life so diverse.

As for physics books;
Stephen Hawking's, A Brief History of Time is a simple read yet amazing!

Michio Kaku's, Physics of the Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny.

My personal #1 reason that I don't like religion is because I like knowledge! And Religion suppresses knowledge; not just the knowledge unfortunately, but it suppresses the entire drive to understand.
